When Megan Carroll arrived at ����APP from Ohio, she was looking for more than just a college experience – she wanted a place where she could push herself academically, continue her passion for lacrosse, and grow as a person. She found that community at ����APP.

 A health science major on the pre-med track, Megan dove headfirst into research and clinical opportunities made possible through ����APP’s strong connection to Northwell Health and the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research. She participated in a clinical research internship after her first year, observing emergency medicine physicians and contributing to published research. That experience sparked a passion for health systems science, which she explored further as a summer scholar with the Feinstein Institutes. There, she worked on projects related to dementia, maternal loneliness, and patients’ goals – research that deepened her understanding of the human side of medicine.

But Megan’s experiences went beyond the classrooms and labs. She became an EMT with a local volunteer ambulance corps, eventually rising to the rank of lieutenant. She also worked as a beach EMT during the summer and competed (and won gold) at the Canadian-American Fire, Police, and EMS Games. And on campus, she balanced all this with a demanding lacrosse schedule and a tutoring job supporting other student-athletes in STEM courses.

“Being busy made me better,” she said. “It taught me to manage my time, trust myself, and really go after what I wanted.”

Megan shared that one of the most important parts of her ����APP journey was the mentoring she received – from professors like Professor Maurice Hayon – who helped her build her confidence during the most challenging moments. “My professors believed in me when I wasn’t sure I believed in myself,” she said.

Now preparing to apply to medical school, Megan says the thing she’ll miss most is the people – especially her close-knit group of friends who turned late-night laughs in the Student Center into memories that will last a lifetime.

“����APP helped me grow into someone ready to take on what’s next,” she said.  “I’m leaving with lifelong friends, mentors who believed in me, and a sense that I can handle whatever comes next.”
