For Alexandra, choosing ����APP meant having the freedom to pursue all her passions. With a double major in speech-language-hearing sciences and musical theater, she was drawn to ����APP because it was the only school that supported both of her ambitions.

“I fell in love with speech pathology because of the impact it had on the people I love,” she said. “Speech pathologists helped my autistic cousin learn how to communicate, and gave my grandmother, who had Alzheimer’s, strategies to hold onto her memories longer. That made me want to do the same for others.”

At the same time, Alexandra had spent 14 years performing in musical theater and wasn’t ready to give it up.

The University’s location also played a key role in her choice of schools. ����APP’s proximity to New York City offered access to professional opportunities while providing a quieter, close-knit community where Alexandra felt she could grow.

During her time at ����APP, Alexandra participated in a study abroad program in Puerto Rico, where she partnered with ����APP’s Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences to provide hearing screenings for underserved communities. “It was amazing to give back to my home community in such an impactful way,” she said. “This experience solidified my purpose in becoming a speech pathologist.”

Her favorite memory from ����APP is the Celebration Walk during Welcome Week, where new students are greeted with cheers from faculty, staff, and orientation leaders. “It was the moment I realized ����APP was my hone,” she said.

Alexandra credits her success to the supportive network she found on campus. “The community here is something I couldn’t have gotten anywhere else. The students and staff truly make you feel like you belong.”

After graduation, Alexandra is on her way to earning a master’s degree in speech-language pathology at ����APP, along with teaching and dual-language certifications.

And while she’s excited about what’s ahead, she knows there’s one thing she’ll miss the most: “The people. They’ve become like family to me.”
